Arlene, this is in the archives. There are several very long posts about it there that will tell you all about it. Just do a search on chocolate. To boil it down to a nutshell, chocolate is a rare recessive color that is most often seen as a light-nosed, light-eyed blenheim, but can be a visual chocolate coat color if the Cavalier carries both "bb" genes and at least one "E". Amice Pitt used chocolates at least once that I know of when she and others were founding the breed in the 1920s - 1940s. That cross in TTiweh lines is where the color comes from and it can hide for generations because it is recessive to blenheim.
