I would want to first know why they are taking the dog to the vet and eye
doctor. Is it because of excess tearing? It seems to me that you are
saying this pup is about 10 months old. Excess tearing is very, very common
amongst Cavalier puppies of that age. Usually between 12 and 24 months this
excess tearing all but goes away. I would not want to rush into surgery on
a puppy that is so young for this reason.

As for the diagnosis of medial entropia--this is a condition. But if a
puppy is taken to an ophthalmologist with a *problem*, an ophthalmologist
will obviously try to find an answer to that problem. In fact most will be
determined to find an answer. Nearly all lids turn slightly in or out as
very few are absolutely dead on perfect, but whether or not the turning in
or out is significant enough to cause tearing would be nearly impossible to
determine at this age--since so many Cavalier puppies tear excessively at
that age anyway.

If the puppy is getting ulcers or some more serious problem--then surgery
would be indicated. If only because of excess tearing--I would wait.
