Hi Susan et al, I am not suggesting everyone alter their pet puppies before they go home. A breeder's main concern ultimately needs to be that their puppies are placed in a loving safe environment. Generally that is accomplished by screening and education. Imagine though, if some person or "family" came to you and seemed to be a wonderful home, listened intently to all of your suggestions on caring for a puppy agreed to spay/neuter at 6 months, signed a contract and bought the puppy on limited registration and then turned around and "disappeared off the face of the earth" then all of your trust and your contract clause for accidental breedings wouldn't amount to a hill of beans.
However, this could have easily been avoided by telling them that the puppy would be altered prior to placement. They would have gone elsewhere. That doesn't mean you actually had to alter the puppy just tell them you were going to.
