In the USA, we do not seem to have the prevalence of syringo.........whateveritscalled, so there is no recommendation here to do MRI scans. I personally have only known of/seen two cases where the dogs scratch at their necks when their necks are touched by something, like a collar or someone's hand. I would not call this as having a devastating effect on these dogs' lives. However, you need to educate me on this disease and correct me if indeed the situation is far more grave in the UK. Sorry to be so ignorant on this disease -- just have not come across it very much.
MVD, HD, patella problems and eye problems are far more prevalent. Hence the reason the recommendation to examine dogs for these diseases prior to breeding IS highly recommended and encouraged - not only in Cavaliers but in ALL breeds. Since this is the case in the USA with recommendations from veterinary professionals and specialists, and since I am producing animals that will affect the lives of, not only the individual puppies, but also the lives of their owners, why would I not take the advice and check these dogs for the extremely common, inherited diseases? It is interesting to note the posts from other countries -- France has started a pilot program to include echocardiograms and heart tests; Australia has new cardiology clinics sprouting up here and there; Germany has started with a new pilot with regard to MVD. What exactly is the UK doing?
