Why can't you just accept at face value what I write - I have to have my dogs anaesthetised for X ray - My fully qualified ophthalmologist takes more than 5 minutes to test a dogs eyes. ------------------
Jeanie, the same is done with my dogs and I am in the US. My vet insists on anaethesia for OFA x-rays and so do the other vets in my town. When I go to Athens for the CERF exams, the vet does the drops and takes more than 5 minutes on the exam as well. I recently had to have my own eyes examined in the same way and it was either fun nor easy. In fact, it was quite painful to have a bright light refracted into my eyes for checking the retina and I thought the dr. would never finish. It wasn't as bad as a mammogram, but close. I do believe that it is best to do the testing that is available. However, the tests are not conveniently located for everyone. Personally, it would be nice if we could have all puppies eyes checked, but my closest eye vet is a 4 hour drive away. We manage to get there once a year, but that is about it as I do have another life and other responsibilities.
