Hi Dorothea, and I always have enjoyed their companionship, but because of their frail heart problems, I always have been reluctant to get one for myself. Please don't hesitate to have a Cavalier - not all get heart problems and of those that do develop a murmur, many live a long and active life. I have two 11 year olds, one who developed a murmur at 7 1/2 and the other who got a Grade 1 murmur at 10 - they are both as fit as fiddles, not on any medication and are fine. I have had ones who lived until 14 and many who died from cancer or kidney failure - not heart disease. So go ahead and get your Cavalier - they are wonderful. After nearly 30 years with the breed, I have never regretted it. Jeanie Montford Sydney, Australia
