I'm with Kathy. You can't count the days accurately without the LH
surge/progesterone levels. We have done progesterone levels on our girls
and allowed our boy to have access to them at will. From the testing
combined with the record keeping on when he chooses to breed them, we have
found that he will breed them two days after they ovulate, and maybe on the
third day as well. He won't breed them before and he has never bred a bitch
more than twice. When he sired the 9 pups, he bred Amy one time and one
time only two days after she ovulated on the fifth day of her season. When
he sired the litter of 8, he bred the girl once on the seventh day of her
season, and once in the morning of the 8th day of her season. She too
ovulated on day five. He recently had an outside girl who ovulated on the
11th day of her season. He bred her on the 13th and 14th days. I'm a
little bit unwilling to trust his nose, and we're not quite used to having a
boy who sniffs and walks off even when the bitch if flagging her tail, but
so far, he has done a good job for us. Myra Savant
