Why is he on 2 meals a day?

Every adult in my house eats only one meal a day and none eats more than 3/4
cup. The majority eat 2/3 cup. My tiny Dinah only eats 1/2 cup a
day--otherwise she gains weight quickly. Even a large Cavalier is very
small in comparison to a human--they do not need much food!

I, too, do not like reduced calorie foods. They are designed for short term
use only. It is much better to use a premium food and reduce the amount.

Pat Hastings suggests soaking half the kibble to give it more volume to help
fill the tummy better. And adding well cooked, fresh or frozen (not canned)
green beans on top.

Most Cavaliers/dogs act starved all the time. That is just how dogs are.
In the wild they may have to go days without eating much of anything then
gorge themselves in one day, so it is their natural inclination to eat as
much as possible when food is *available*. They need to be able to do this
in order to survive. It doesn't always mean they are hungry--it just means
their instincts are telling them to eat as much as possible when it is
available. Unfortunately for our pets it is always available. So we have to
be the ones to *withhold* the food.
