I actually think 2 times a day is *better* for dogs but I have good reason
to tell my puppy buyers to feed adults only once a day.

Cavaliers just do not eat much! When you try to divide 1/2 cup or 2/3 cup
into 2 portions, it barely covers the bottom of the pan! I find that
virtually ALL my puppy buyers just cannot fathom that amount is enough for
their beloved family member and each adds a tiny bit more to every meal.
Then I get a small, moderately boned Cavalier that is 12 inches tall for
boarding and it weighs 25 lbs!

As I tell them, half of hardly anything is nearly NOTHING and few can resist
adding a few kernels at each meal--you know *just an extra handful* (and
that handful is about 1/4 cup!). So it is better to feed an adult small
breed dog once a day for all but the most strong-willed humans.

Ask anyone who works at a vet office how many of their clients are
overweight.
