Nice markings and pigmentation is the same as: "nice clothes and eye-liner,
or make-up." And I agree with that. What do you on the list feel about this
statement? And if the bitch was exceptional in almost every other way would
you show her if she had a red marking on her face that extended from the
side
of her muzzle, going up to her nostrils?
I have never had to deal with color per se in the other breeds I have had.
Another breeder told me that a tri should have a competely white collar
without any break. I've never read or heard this before. True?

Hi Liz, I would listen to this breeder especially where it relates to
tri's or white markings on whole colours.

I have bred from clown faced (missing a coloured patch over an eye) bitches
who have not reproduced it. I do not consider a face mark for breeding
purposes and it would therefore not come into the equation as to whether a
dog stayed or not. However when it comes to spending entry money you really
have to be sensible and decide if in your area considering all things
including the level of competition if it's worth it. Mind you here's me
spouting this when I was the person who campaigned a one eyed dog to his
title including a BIS.

I currently have an 8 year old tri dog who I co-bred and who was earmarked
to go to Hawaii when he was a puppy, the person didn't go ahead with the
purchase because he did not have a full white collar ( it's only 3/4's).
This dog is a BIS and RBIS specialty winner and has produced champion
progeny.
