Hello List, I don't often make a comment but feel in this instance that I have to agree with Annette, Mr Garrison and all the others. If you bring a judge from overseas and at considerable expense to the inviting Club(s) you ought to have some confidence in that person's integrity to please themselves. In these days of the internet, instant news, pictures etc. an impending judge if really bothered could do their " homework" in so many subtle ways without ever speaking to an exhibitor before a show. When I judged in Christchurch New Zealand a few years ago I thought it was an excellent idea as the Club had a party the night before the show where all exhibitors were invited to meet and socialise with the judge and this certainly made no difference to my decisions the next day and no one could complain. Sometimes if you are really friendly with people things work the other way and you end up being harder on them if they show under you as you are so frightened to be seen as biased. Perhaps really close friends shouldn't put each other on the spot anyway, and if you have to show only take puppies or youngsters that will not count in the major awards. At the end of the day we all have to live with our consciences and most try to put up dogs we genuinely really like on any particular day, irrespective of who owns them. It nice to find a complete stranger (dog and owner) to put up, but certainly not to the detriment of a superior well known dog that deserves to win. JMO Geoffrey Porter Ringcreevy NI. UK
