carol,
i have laminate floors in my house and i love them. i "tested" all the
different kinds before deciding which to buy. took samples home and used a
variety of things on them. yes, the pergo does scratch. i found the toughest
one is the wilson art. i took a hammer to it and nothing happened. they are
not slippery when wet and the dogs get decent traction on them. they have a
16 year warrantee but in order for it to be effective, you must have an
authorized installer (someone that has been trained and licensed by wilson
art). you do not need to prepare the existing floor to install it either as
it is a floating floor. the cost is about the same as ceramic tile. the
only problem with the laminates is that along the seam, sometimes they can
buckle a little bit. i highly recommend them tho. i have moved furniture
across it and not even one little scratch.
