I have a question that I am hoping someone can assist me with. We have a
litter of new puppies, not Cavalier puppies but another breed. One of the
puppies is doing very well. Heartbreakingly, we have lost one of the
puppies and one of the puppies is in some distress.

She is not sustaining her weight. She is nursing and has good suck reflexes
but she gains and then loses the weight. She was born on Friday morning
and by this time should weight about 7 oz. Her brother weighs almost 10
oz. already. She has been struggling with staying over 6.4 oz. Although
better than yesterday, she is being helped to feed hourly and does well
when watched and assisted. My concern is the diarrhea she has and the
color. It was yellow and now has become greenish, more liquid than mucus.
Our vet has suggested liquid amoxycillin .05 ml bid - has anyone done this
with such a small puppy?

We had thought to try and use some unflavored yogurt to return the
intestinal balance. Does anyone have any idea what we might try, or any
thoughts on what we may be dealing with. We do have Cavaliers but this is
our first litter from our other bitch.
I feel that time is of the essence and I know how fast people respond to
the list when asked for help. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Please e-mail the list or e-mail me privately.

Thank you very much.
