It wouldn't hurt because then the puppy would not get the milk from the mother. I do recommend checking the mother with your vet to see if she has any type of infection including mastitis. Have a friend in California with dalmatian puppies and they all (7) had to be bottled fed because the mother developed mastitis. Can be serious.
