That happens here too.  Vet's offices are quoting what sounds like great
prices, then hit the people with much higher total bills.  Quoting one fee
for a spay, then add in anesthesia charges, pre-op charges, post-op charges,
supply and material charges, lab work, etc.  I always advise people to ask
the vet or the front office staff, "What is the TOTAL price I'll be paying
when I come to pick up my pet."  That way, they don't get whapped upside the
head with a HUGE bill when they were assuming that what they were quoted was
going to be the total cost.
