We have whelping boxes that have a side rail so the puppy can scoot over to
the side and the dam can't roll or sit on it. I don't think that we have
ever had a puppy sat upon, but we have had one mom who stepped on a newborn
and tore a hole in the skin of it's back with her toenail. Wm. tucked the
pup, who was about 10 ounces, into his shirt and took it to the vet to be
stitched. The vet was quite puzzled when Wm. went into the examining room
and she asked " where's the puppy?". He shocked her when he reached into his
shirt and pulled out the tiny baby.

Wm. said the the vet's hands were shaking as she stitched up the puppy. She
had recently gotten her license and had never worked on a baby that small.
The little one healed up fine though.

All the best,
Susan Cochran
