Thank you Sharon. I recognize that sometimes you have to leave things alone. This time, after losing the first one, I felt that she deserved a little extra care. I do know that preemie babies oftentimes grow up and make up for lost time. I am hoping that this will happen here. I know now that I should have left the first one alone.
This little girl is still holding her own inspite of the fact that her mother continues on the decline of her mothering skills. We are hoping that with her second litter she will show increased mothering tendencies. With the two remaining puppies two weeks old tomorrow, I feel that I have been doing this for 2 months and not 2 weeks. Their eyes are opening at the same rate and while Hilda continues to care for the girl somewhat, she has abandoned the dog. Bruiser, who looks like a midget salami, is not something that one can ignore. We have started to clean him for her. We continue ever vigil hoping for the best and a quick start and end to weaning.
