I do not see it as being harmful to ask a judge after the end of judging
if they would mind giving their opinion of your dog, especially if not
placed high enough to get a written critique.  Where it gets risky is if
you do not agree with the judges opinion and it turns into an argument
or slanging match. If asking for their opinion it should not be on the
basis of questioning their judgement.  It should be on the basis of
increasing knowledge of what judges are looking for and the importance
they place on particular features.

As a novice I sought others opinions continuously and weighed up the
differing opinions placing greater importance on the ones that were
consistent.  At that time I was looking for reassurance that I was not
making a fool of myself by showing something that was really unsuitable.
I still seek the opinions of others although I feel sufficiently aware
of my own dogs shortcomings to use it as confirmation of my own
opinions.
