Hi, Elaine,
OH, I so much agree with you! I think that the systems in place over
the pond (UK, France and other countries) where they have critiques are
super.
Is there some AKC rule that says there couldn't be critiques at a
specialty?
I have asked judges after they are finished their entire (not just
Cavaliers) judging assignment to comment on my dog. (It is helpful to
have the dog with you when you do that; after seeing many dogs they may
not remember yours). I have had good feedback, remarkable instruction,
and also balderdash. (After that post of mine this week I'm being
exquisitely polite to show I'm not totally without class. <G>) So, sort
the wheat from the chaff and ask opinions of those who put up dogs YOU
admire or who breed dogs you admire.
I am always anxious to show under people who own dogs I admire.
Unfortunately, in a couple of cases I can't do that because I own dogs
from them! <VBG>
