What I mean by sporting dog look is the dog is less compact or cobby, it is more refined in bone and body, more length of leg--more athletic or more lanky looking--maybe slightly more English Cocker-y looking but with less bone (and a tail). That is what is winning around here much of the time--especially in bitches. This rarely happens at the shows with large entries, but we don't have many around here with large entries! However, it happens most of the time at the shows with small entries in my area. It has nothing to do with structure. A very typey dog can be extremely sound or extremely unsound. A very sound dog can be extremely typey or totally lacking type. Anyone on this list who knows me and my dogs knows I am a fanatist for REALLY good structure and movement--but I also think type is equally important.
