More and more I find people that know not to buy at a pet store will turn to the newspaper and buy from a "breeder". They get their puppy cheaper because "it doesn't have papers" but there are champions in the pedigree. Or, it is registered with CKC (Continental Kennel Club) "which is just like AKC" and "the breeder said I could show and breed the puppy after I register it with CKC and they send me the pedigree." This tells me that there are people who are misrepresenting themselves to reputable breeders and know all the right things to say and "have no problem if the puppy is on limited registration because they don't want to breed they just want a pet." When in fact all they want is a nice intact puppy from "Champion lines" and they really don't care about the registration because they can still sell the puppy. I remember when I was looking for a pet Devon Rex (cat) I called all around the country and Canada because I wanted a specific color and sex, a white odd-eyed male. When I finally found one in Ohio I told the breeder exactly what I was looking for and how relieved I finally found a kitten the first thing out of her mouth was, "he will be neutered before he goes home." I said good it was one less thing I have to do and was the cost of the neuter included in the pet price or additional. In retrospect I must have sounded like a future kitten miller looking for breeding stock to her at first LOL
