If the xray is clear and the dog is positioned somewhat straight, it really
isn't hard to see if the hips are good or not.  There are some very old xray
machines out there though and some vet clinics seem to not be able to
position the hips correctly--OFA is better able to *see* through those types
of problems.

I have 2 hip xrays on my site (soon to be 3 when I remember to take Macey's
xrays to the vet to take pictures of) and 3 hip xrays on the Premier
Site--including one that shows HD.  I think it is easy to see the reason
Dinah's got a *Good* and Blu's a *Fair* and even easier to see that the one
shows obvious signs of HD.  What is so hard about that?  But again these are
well taken, clear xrays.  If they weren't it would be harder to evauate.
