Come on now, you know why! OFA is a great database and source of information! I think everything should be sent to them for this reason. If we all had our own evaluated and didn't send it anywhere, no one would have easy access to this information. OFA couldn't report findings on improvement or lack of in breeds. People from all over the U.S. can xray their dogs, send it to OFA, be evaluated by their experts, and have their dogs entered into the database. That is how you can see trends of certain dogs and lines all across a huge country without spending days on the phone and hundreds of dollars telephoning each individual breeder to find out what their results are.
I answered this in a previous post. Since HD is polygenic just knowing the status of our own dogs is not going to help at all.
