Hi Pat, I agree with a straining bitch and no pup. I won't let her labor hard for much longer than a half hour, if there is no pup in sight, I get on the phone with the vet.....however....I don't worry if it is taking longer, within reason between pups as long as the bitch is comfortable. In my last litter, the first 3 babies came an hour between each one and then the last one came almost 3 hours after the 3rd one. I will have to say that I was getting a bit concerned, but mom was sleeping comfortably and did not seem to be in any distress, just getting some rest before the last one. Mom must have known that I had mentally said that if she goes longer than 3 hours, I would call the vet.........<VBG>....because litte Lizzy popped out 3 hours on the button without any problems.
