Way back in the dim recesses of my mind, I seem to recall that there is a degree of registration allowed for pure bred dogs with verifiable pedigrees but are not registered with an AKC recognized body.
The dog may not be shown, but his or her get may become registered and shown AKC. If anyone was interested, they should call or write AKC and inquire.
