I've raised hamsters, gerbils, and rabbits. I've had hamsters live between 2 and 4.5 years. Some rodents are happier "not" being handled at all. Even in the same litter (last litter had 15), some may hate to be handled, some love it. Most rodents (some rabbits are) can not be house trained and therefore are not allowed out unsupervised. If they can keep the rodents from escaping all should be well. I would only take them out of their cage in rooms where there are no dogs. We have had no problems with ours and we've had both for years. Sandy Liston
