Okay, now I'm reeeeeeaaly angry! I just found out, after importing three dogs in the last six years, a Norfolk Terrier six years ago from Sweden and two Cavaliers from Holland this last year that the microchips the foreign vets implanted that allowed us to import them can NOT be read by the pet tracking company, Avid, with whom I have had an account for these six years. (Really long sentence.)
It seems the numbers come encrypted and cannot be scanned or read by vets in the States. I am not so angry about the wasted money spent changing address information, etc. on my dogs over the years, or the cost of having them all re-chipped, not to mention the discomfort it may cause them, but that if something had happened, the process would have not helped and probably hindered any search for them. I can't believe the Avid company did not tell me this when I first called six years ago to register my first dog. Just thought the list should know if you didn't already know.
