<< You know when I wrote that I thought maybe that's not what I should say>>
Debbie, Thanks for the clarification. I feel a little better now. Although, I think a newspaper would be a little scarey for a pup anyways.... i do like your other idea about "trading" for something else. Of course, if your pup has something that it REALLY shouldn't have then you have to do whatever it takes to get it back. I was thinking the newspaper would scare the dog if you were even waving it at them and then you wouldn't be able to get close enuf to get the "bad item" away. On another note, Baker often growls at me when i'm trying to take something away. But if i mean business , he will "give". He doesnt have another pup to play with so i think he trys to engage me in tugofwar games (which i wont play because the trainer said that i would have to 'win' each game for him to know i'm the alpha). He does this by grabbing a toy and pushing it up on my leg to try to get me to grab it, then when i do occasionally, he will growl and run away with the toy. He wants me to chase him... If he does that its "the end of the game". He is learning that if he wants to play with me he has to leave the toy nicely at my feet or put it in my hand. The way your pups situation was described, it really sounded like it was just puppy play, but i'm sure you know the difference. Have you seen this puppy act this way or just heard about it? If I were you as the breeder i would want to observe it to make sure the owners are not misinterpreting the behavior....(when Baker growls it sounds like he's a wolf or something!)
