The sad fact is that they always will be in business too. Just think of the laws of supply and demand the Hunt Corp. ships out 900 puppies per week, that's 46,800 per year. Reputables breeders as a group I am certain do not come close to that number on a yearly basis. In addition, there is always that person or family that has no business owning a plant much less a puppy that a reputable breeder would never sell to. If those idiots are determined to get a puppy they will get one even if it is not from one of us, that is where the pet shops come in. I think that the best we can hope for when it comes to pet shops is that all puppies sold from them be spayed or neutered prior to being sold.
