I think it's genetic. They either have the tendency to go "fuzzy" after desexing or they don't. I have a fat, spayed-for-several years, kibble-fed bitch who probably gets bathed and brushed every two to three weeks at most. Her coat is absolutely beautiful, silky and straight.
