Mary -- I agree with Cathy Gish -- show Baker anyway. Yes, the standard says
no trimming, but from what I've seen in the AKC shows (in our area anyhow)
the judges don't seem to disqualify or otherwise dismiss Cavaliers that have
been obviously trimmed. And some dogs naturally have shorter ears and
shorter feathers than others.
As for the foolish groomers: You should get free grooming sessions
and have the entry fees reimbursed if you couldn't or didn't show Baker.
The only time I had Kai groomed here in the Buffalo area, the groomer
trimmed her feet (which didn't bother me too much because Kai was a pet and I
also trimmed feet in bad weather) and her ears: really ticked me off because
Kai had lovely long long ears (typical tricolor) that were one of my joys!
Now I just do the dogs myself.
I raised holy hell because the went against my wishes...and got free
grooming for 4 more grooming sessions. I never used it because I
subsequently learned that this groomer yells and smacks the dogs she's
working on.
Give Baker a hug and tell you love his big feet even if they're not
feathery...and they will grow back. You'll see improvement in about a
month...at least some extra length by that time.
