Probably the difference is for the other dogs in the class. The trimmed dog won't get thrown out of the ring and break the major for the other dogs. It will only be considered as a number toward a major (for one of the other dogs), but shouldn't have a hope of placing.
If you were going anyway, show the dog. It will be "no pressure" practice for your dog and might make up a major for someone else.
