Dear Myra, Doesn't the CKCS breed show standard specify clearly what type of head "should be"? I know different judges and people interpret standards differently but who writes the standard? Isn't it the breeders?
Can the standard be amended by vote of the council or whatever? I am just a pet owner so I really have no copy of the cavalier show conformation standards. Are they different in CKCSC and AKC? Respectfully, Maureen Kopper >You know what puzzles me sometimes? The word "type". So often, it means >"taste". We have a boy, who is a Reflection/Scandal grandson. He looks >very much like them, although certainly not a dead ringer. His head is very >similar to theirs. We've had people come up and tell us at shows how lovely >he is, judges who have told us that he exhibits wonderful type, and friends >who tell us that they don't care for his head because it isn't "typey" >enough. I've had people tell me that he has nice structure, but that they >don't care for his head, and other people tell me that his head is stunning. > (nobody ever quibbles about his structure, however) (he's on the home >page of our web site if you want to see the boy with what is evidently three >or four different heads. www.gardengatecavaliers.com "Robbie") We have a >lovely girl who has a different head...very, plush, very short muzzle but >quite different from the boy. Same thing with her. We've had judges who >loved her, judges who hated her. People who say they love her head, and >people who say they prefer more muzzle length. My biggest complaint is when >people tell me that they would rather breed for "typey" heads than nice >structure. What the heck does that mean? Could someone please take the >time to explain what the word "type" actually means, if not personal >"taste"?
