Even when on high speed, the power of the minimite is not powerful enough to rip the hair out but hair can wind around it and cause the grinder to stop. It has happened to me on occasion but more hair gets pulled out as I unwind it rather than when it's winding up. None of my dogs are afraid of the grinder even after getting hair caught. But the stocking would certainly make it easier on both of us. <VBG> Jackie
