Having bred dogs for almost 30 years and grooming professionally for almost that long, I can tell you that the minimal squeaking pups do at 3 days (when pain receptors are not fully developed) is nothing in comparison to a dog which rips a dewclaw off --or usually half way off, so it remains painfully dangling and needs veterinary surgery to repair.
