Dear List- This has got to be a new record for me, as I am quite content to remain in the lurker mode and learn from those with much greater wisdom than I. But this will be my third post for the day, and again is a question for the list:
I was just contacted by a person who has a ruby Cavalier that I bred, as well as a tricolor girl from another breeder. Several days ago her tricolor started to walk with a "waddle" in the rear, and seemed increasingly lethargic. She took her to the vet yesterday, but after running blood tests and taking x-rays of her back, they could not determine what the problem was. Her blood tests revealed nothing unusual. I believe they gave her some Rimadyl. This morning, the dog could not go down the stairs, was even more lethargic and seemed reluctant to even walk. When placed outdoors, she had a seizure and collapsed, losing control of her bladder. She again ran her to the vet, where she was put on fluids and given some drug whose name her owner cannot recall. She has not shown any signs of improvement today, and the vet has recommended taking her to a neurologist. One interesting piece of information that this woman gave was that she had put a flea and tick collar (Prevent-A-Care?) on both of her Cavaliers sometime last week. She said the tricolor girl had removed the ruby girl's collar at some point and was chewing on it. I am just trying to solicit some possible ideas on what this could be. Obviously the correlation with the flea collar is of concern. Any thoughts would be very much appreciated. Thanks again for any help, and also thanks for all of your comments on the doggy doors. It looks as though 4"-6" will be about the right height!
