Both of mine are just a couple of inches off the ground as well. It really helps the babies. My puppies are usually going in AND out the doggie door by 6 weeks of age. No storm door doggie doors here though--we have to keep our main doors completely closed 6-8 months of the year--gets too cold. The two I have now go through the wall.
