My husband says I need to start a support group for people who can't
stop buying dog books. (My husband is one to talk, mr. "oh, but I
MUST have this new computer game...")

Hi, I'm new. I am currently "without dog." I had a sussex spaniel
who had to go to the rainbow bridge, and even though it was recent,
I know I can NOT live without another dog, so researching other
breeds gives me a project while I'm grieving, before I get my next
dog. My husband is also involved in the process, but since I'm the
bigger dog addict, I'm doing most of the legwork.

My sussex mentor was a cav breeder for many years, and says she'll
always have one, even though she no longer breeds them. I wanted
a smaller dog, so she suggested I at least LOOK at cavs. I have met
her one bitch, and from what little I saw (I held her at a show),
I can tell you I already know they are very sweet dogs. I am already
scheduled to meet some more dogs from a breeder that my mentor really
likes.

So I'm vegging here, just trying to soak up the info. My biggest
concern, as one might guess, is the MVD. What do I ask a breeder
about this? I know I can't expect them not to have ANY in their lines
-- aren't most dogs eventually diagnosed? I realize if I end up with
this breed, I'm likely to have to deal with this down the road. But
how do I make sure to minimize the heartache?
