Yes, but they were sold as restricted pets except for one who was sold with
full disclosure. When it is time for that puppy girl to be bred, assuming
it passes it's other health testing, the breeding would be one carefully
chosen to further breed "away" from that carrier status instead of "into"
it. Her new owner understands all of this and is more than willing to work
with us (sire and dam owners) as part of a team of decision makers. We
both spent lots of time with her when she flew up to pick up her puppy. She
in fact, has a free breeding coming to one of our own boys who is not a
carrier to further encourage good breeding decisions. (Hi Sandy) That is
why we so badly need to identify carrier status on our dogs, and share that
information completely and freely. That way, we can help each other to
breed away from these genetically transmitted diseases rather than eliminate
valuable dogs from our breeding program. The bitch in this case, who was a
carrier.....is also 4.5 years old, heart clear, OFA good, Patellae normal,
CERFed, lovely girl with lovely structure...AKC champion, and a wonderful
sound temperament. She deserved to be bred and her puppies deserved to have
a chance to pick up her good heart, hips and patellae and Robbie's good
heart, hips and patellaes as well as those of his 7 year old heart clear
parents. As a bonus, they picked up dad's clean retinas. Isn't this really
what we talk about all the time when we say we won't throw out the baby with
the bath water? Myra
