I wonder if this sort of GRD is like posterior vitreous detachment in humans. My husband recently had this occur and we were very frightened by the time we got to the eye doctor. It was reassuring to learn that all humans will have posterior vitreous detachment as a part of aging. The liquid portion of the eye is like jello until the late 50s then it liquifies and detachs from the retina in the back part of the eye. In about 5% of the cases, this causes retinal detachment so all PVD patients are closely watched. Wm. is fine, but he had to be checked several times to make sure his retina was not tearing as a part of the PVD. However, the flashing lights and cobwebs that he saw were startling and we were very worried for a while there. All the best, Susan Cochran
