Gerri -

I wish our list was as long as yours. We work solely with a PB All Breed
Rescue Network. Most breeds are listed and many are not. I have to agree
with Gerri, we do not receive as much support from rescue as we would like.
I remember waiting for days to hear back from a rescue group on a 3 month
old puppy with irreversible behavioral damage from a puppy mill. We never
heard back from them after repeated attempts to reach them. Like you, we
see more mixed breeds that purebreds; however, that is changing. We have
seen an increasing number of PB puppies and young adults, from pet stores
and breeders. We are in one of the richest counties in our state and with
that comes owners with disposable incomes and "disposable" animals. Good
news, is we have YET to see a Cavalier. We have had a few Cavalier mixes
though. Sadly, this will change. I have seen more ads for Cavaliers in the
paper and puppies in pet stores these past few months, which is never good.
I think many of you would be surprised to hear the heartbreaking stories we
get, when someone relinquishes a pet. Unfortunately, our shelter has not
yet been able to locate an All Breed Rescue that will take our mixed breeds.

Hi Winnie,

I'm not Maria...but...as a side point, at my shelter, we have a rescue list
that is 22 typed pages long (I just counted!) Of all those listed, there are
only a handful of purebred rescues that will come consistently when called.
Off the top of my head, I can think of only 4 (Golden Retriever Rescue,
Doxie
Rescue, Min Pin Rescue and Bassett Hound Rescue) that come every single time
we call, no questions asked, and will take the dog regardless of age,
health, or temperament. Cavalier Rescue is wonderful, but lets face it, how
many Cavaliers end up routinely in animal shelters??!! From a rescue
standpoint, far more mixed breed dogs and puppies leave my shelter with
volunteers from the 2 local "All Breed" rescues than all the purebred
rescues
combined.
