In the Houston area, the adoption fees from a gov't. facility are about $65, which usually includes spay/neuter and a rabies shot. Period. Fees are usually higher from private rescue sources. Here many rescue dogs have heartworms, and treatment for that, without any complications, is $250 and up, depending on whether they can find a vet that gives a discount for rescue.
I recently adopted out a girl I rescued privately for $175 adoption fee. Her vet bills were $383, plus she left with a new collar and lead, a microchip, and a sack of kibble. I also fed and bathed her etc. for 2 months. My big payoff came about a week later when I received a photo of two happy kids cuddling a little dog dressed in a T-shirt and a baby bonnet! -- Barb Cooke [EMAIL PROTECTED] SeaIsle Cavaliers Galveston Island, Texas Visit our website at http://www.CavalierMix.com to see some adorable adoptables ========================================================= "Magic Commands": to stop receiving mail for awhile, click here and send the email: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?body=SET%20CKCS-L%20NOMAIL to start it up gain click here: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?body=SET%20CKCS-L%20MAIL E-mail [EMAIL PROTECTED] for assistance.
