More likely, they are simply trying to recoup their expenses. I haven't seen the dog in question, but spay/neuter, vaccines, etc., don't come cheap. Rescue has to pay vets just like everyone else. I currently have a Cavalier mix rescue dog. Her vet bills are in excess of $400. If I charge a $400 adoption fee for her, am I trying to make money, or just recouping my expenses??
