Dear List, I have been trying to read all posts regarding the issues, recognition, mandatory testing, breeders vs. pet owners, lawsuits and so on. I am having a problem understanding something -
All those issues aside, why does the CKCSCUS recognizing AKC registered dogs have to be a vote of the entire membership? Noone would be forced to use an AKC only registered dog/bitch? No pet buyer would be forced to buy a puppy that was not from an ethical breeder - as I see it, nothing would be affected, except that breeders could freely choose the dogs they wish to use without fear of reprisal from the CKCSC. Maybe I am missing something, but I just can't see why this is such a big deal. I can only see positive results from the decision, for everyone - more breeders joining (or re-joining) CKCSC, access to some wonderful dogs, more participation in the health registry, more education, access to health clinics, more revenue for research, more information sharing among breeders (especially new breeders), more interaction between breeders and pet owners, I wish someone would explain to me what the negative impact would be if the club recognized AKC registrations? and from a legal standpoint, why the club has to put it to a vote of the membership to recognize a registering body that is a) over 100 years old, b) recognized by every worldwide registering body, c) where the stud book was built from CKCSC's own official pedigrees. I know I may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but I think I am reasonably intelligent, usually very sensible, and have been breeding Cavaliers quite a long time, what am I missing?
