MOST (not all) canine yeast ear infections are linked to an allergy. The
tissue in the ear swells with fluid in the tissues as an allergic reaction
and the warm, moist condition is perfect for yeast as well as bacteria.
Yeast is not one of the most common organisms found in the canine mouth; much
more likely to get bacterial problems from oral "bugs". Regular cleaning
with a canine ear cleaner and occasional dusting with a canine ear "dust"
(both available at most large pet stores or via catalogs and on-line) will
help, but reducing exposure to allergens is needed to fully prevent
recurrance.
