The parti gene can come from any ancestor on either side as long as it was passed down to the next nearest wholecolor ancestor. A parti gene as far back as three generations or more has been known to pass down through wholecolor descendents and shock the breeder;-) The best way to know if a wholecolor carries for parti is if it has any white on it at birth and even this can be misleading.
