It is not correct that cavaliers don't "go blind from it". Cavaliers with geographic retinal dysplasia have some vision loss. Cavaliers with more severe retinal dysplasia can have retinal detachment, which does indeed cause blindness. I happen to know someone who has a cavalier that is blind from retinal detachment. It was diagnosed at about 12 weeks of age.
I agree, though, that it is not a huge problem. In 1999, out of over 400 cavalier puppies examined by ophthalmologists in the United States, only 4 had retinal detachment, or about 1%.
