Terrie,
Elaine is right with regard to the absence of direction in standards. Most don't say
the dog must have 4 legs, it is taken for granted. And when
permissible colors are listed, and a particular color is not mentioned, one is fairly
safe in assuming that the color is not allowed.
One must keep in mind that when original Standards were put drafted, they were
meant to be used by persons who had already a working knowledge of dogs
in general and the breed in particular. It is only in fairly recent times that things
have had to be spelled out. Many breed clubs have chosen, rather
than changing their standards, to publish "illustrated standards," which can go into
more detail.
