when i'm talking to female professionals (which there are lots of in just 
about every field outside of technology these days) and they ask how many 
women are in the Free software community, I have to give them the unfortunate 
but obvious answer ("relatively few") . then they usually ask with honest 
curiosity, "why?" i hate that question, because the answer is not one i'm 
proud of.
