Szemir and Dave,

Thank you for your insights. I guess the general concensus is that it is
probably hardware related. I reinstalled the latest NVidia drivers and did
some more snooping through their documentation and web forums. One guy thought
that his problem was due to a conflict between the NVidia drivers and ntpd.
His /var/log/messages looked similar to mine, so I disabled ntpd. Also, the
NVidia readme said that AGP problems can cause you system to be unstable, so I
did some snooping through my BIOS settings. I tweaked some of the AGP settings
as per the readme, and I noticed that my onboard sound was enabled. I disabled
it since I have my own sound card in there. I then stopped the kernel from
loading the second sound module. I am now letting my machine sit with glxgears
running, so far so good.
If this fails I will take your advice and do some more hardware monitoring. I
will try to find something that will relay my cpu temp. Although the one time
that I did have a cpu that was overheating the system would spontaniously
reboot, and not freeze. I will also try doing some memory tests. As for irqs.
I have not noticed any conflicts.
As for feeding my machine crack, I think that pretty funny. I know I don't
need 160GB of hard drive space, or 768MB of RAM, but I just trying to keep my
machine current. I had set aside some cash that I got for my birthday and from
a real hot role at the craps table, and I figured boxing day was a great time
to spend it :-).

Thanks again,

Jesse
